The Blank Family Foundation was formed by family patriarch, Sam Blank, in 1943 to fulfill his desire to support and strengthen the South Florida community.  Sam was very proud of the fact that The Greater Miami Jewish Federation was founded in his living room by a small group of his friends.  Sam achieved success following his arrival in Miami in 1925 and believed strongly in sharing his good fortune with the community that made it possible.  His son, Jerry Blank, followed in the family tradition of “Tzdakh”, or “giving back”, and he and his sister Rose added to The Blank Family Foundation, as a way in which to carry on the family legacy.

The Foundation is now in its third generation as Andy Blank continues in the tradition established by his grandfather and father, as the President of the Blank Family Foundation.

The Foundation does not respond to requests from organizations, but rather works with a consultant and the Trustees of the Foundation to identify organizations that meet their guidelines.

Herald Charities, Inc., originally created in 1952 as “Lend a Hand” was renamed in 1995. Herald Charities is a not-profit organization established by The Miami Herald to help meet the needs of our community. Funds are raised during the holidays through the Wish Book program to help individuals in need. Throughout the rest of the year, we develop partnerships in which proceeds from civic events are donated to Herald Charities. The funds are used primarily for programs involving youth-at-risk, literacy and education.

All contributions to Herald Charities, a 501(c) 3, are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
